High + Low, Menil + Fiesta

What do the venerable Menil Collection and grocery giant Fiesta have in common? That%26rsquo;s the question University of Houston professors Aaron Parazette and Gael Stack posed when they instructed undergrad painting majors to visit both museum and food emporium to glean subjects and inspiration for a series of canvases that were first exhibited at Inman Gallery (in August 2013). Fiesta-connected art aficionado Joshua Silver discovered the clever UH student show at Inman, then invited the painters to come to the aisles of Fiesta Mart at 8130 Kirby to mount a supermarket exhibit (through March 23). The grocer%26rsquo;s research and analytics man Barry Hart was instrumental in green-lighting this pop-up, which brings the white cube to the frozen food section and beyond, making for a cheeky little chapter in the annals of Pop art.
