Opening Reception for “The Texas Collection of Dorothy and Mat Garland”
Join us for the Opening Reception for “The Texas Collection of Dorothy and Mat Garland” on Saturday, September 19, 6:00-8:00 pm.
Dorothy and Mat Garland began their journey of collecting works by Early Texas artists in 1987 with their acquisition of a large painting by Otis Dozier. They began to attend openings, lectures, and auctions, and got to know a number of the artists. Their interest also included living Texas artists such as David Bates, Billy Hassell, and Bob Stuth-Wade. A recent move has led Dorothy to release a number of works from her collection by artists including Reveau Bassett, Charles Bowling, Fred Darge, Barney Delabano, Otis Dozier, Edward Eisenlohr, Porfirio Salinas, Olin Travis and many others. A brochure with Dorothy’s essay about the history of their collecting interests and advice to collectors will be available. Please join us to celebrate Dorothy Garland’s 90th birthday on September 19th.
The exhibition will be on view through September 29, 2015.
