Nature in our Backyard: The Trinity River & Great Trinity Forest

Fine photographic prints by Dan Burkholder, Scot Miller, Jill Skupin Burkholder & R.P. Washburne

June 25 – August 22, 2015

The Trinity River and Great Trinity Forest have been receiving much attention, for a variety of reasons, but it’s no secret that the river dominated the spotlight recently. Thousands flocked to its banks to experience the sights of the flood waters. However, the reality is most people know little about the true nature of river and forest as they exist year-round. Sun to Moon Gallery and four talented photographers have worked to change that. For ten years now, the photographers have spent time on and along the river and in and around the forest, including many beautiful but lesser-known areas, creatively interpreting with their cameras. In the process, they have created an ever-expanding and changing body of work that includes engaging new photographs of the flooded Trinity by Scot Miller and R.P. Washburne.

From vivid digitally captured images, to stunning detail studies with film and a medium-format camera, to bromoil prints overlaid with color pigments, to 24k Gold Leaf Prints and more; a wide range of subject matter, artistic expression and photographic techniques form the basis of this eye-opening exhibition. Sun to Moon Gallery invites the public to come, be inspired, and see the river, forest and city in a new light!

New short films by Scot Miller –

Scot Miller, a contributor to the “Moment in Nature” videos, broadcast nationally on Emmy Award-winning CBS Sunday Morning, also spent many hours and days over the past months capturing stunning 4k video footage of the river and forest, including many time sequences. He has created several short films, including one featuring the floods, that will be screened in the gallery throughout the exhibition.
