Curate+Collaborate Exhibition Series presents: Split Seconds

Opening Reception: Saturday, August 23, 2014 (5:30-7:30 PM).

Panel Discussion: Saturday, September 20, 2014 (5 PM) – Presented during the Fall Gallery Walk of the Dallas Art Dealers Association.

Split Seconds is presented as part of the center’s Curate+Collaborate Exhibition Series. The series pairs up two curators every year, who, through a creative partnership, bring together innovative artists, stimulating ideas, and refreshing artistic visions. Marilyn Waligore and Emily Loving are the co-curators of this exhibition. Ms. Waligore is Professor of Aesthetic Studies / Photography at the University of Texas at Dallas. Ms. Loving is a Dallas-based artist who is currently teaching at the University of Texas at Dallas and Richland College.

Rethinking the emphasis on a single moment in time, the featured artists connect photographic frames to build meaning. By blurring distinctions between separate instants, they question the ontology of photography, opening the door to reflection on the status of the medium in the media age.

Splits Seconds surveys photography’s connection to time and the function of what is seen and unseen in creating disparity in perception. Whether through a single instant or the record of duration, these photographic works attempt to comment on the human ability to disseminate visual information. The artists approach this issue from a variety of angles in an effort to expose new truths about what it means to be a viewer in today’s image saturated society.

Participating artists include: Twyla Bloxham, Devyn Gaudet, Ronit Ilan, Eric Keig, Cynthia Miller, Robin Myrick, the collaborative team Slik Stockings (Danielle Georgiou and Hillary Holsonback), and David Witherspoon.
