Carol Cook: The Waiting Room
Valley House Gallery is pleased to announce our first exhibition for Dallas artist Carol Cook. After receiving her BFA from the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, Cook earned a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton. In 2000, Cook earned her MFA in Ceramics from the University of Dallas.
Since childhood, I have been making clay figures to express what interested me. This group of small, fired-clay figures is an outgrowth of many years of three-dimensional shorthand. When I make a figure I try to feel what my subjects feel from the inside out. I choose the motif of people in their furniture because people’s lives are played out and influenced by the chairs they occupy. These sculptures are part of my ongoing response to a special, sometimes forgotten, segment of our population and the inspirational encounters I have had with them.
