American Beauty

For an understanding of where we are, see “Glenn Ligon: America,” a survey of one of the most seminal figures in contemporary art, organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art, landing at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth this spring (through June 3). In the show, Ligon moves from Basquiat-like primitivism and deceptively simple silkscreens of leaders such as Malcolm X to postmodern neon sculptures bearing startling text fragments. Go!
