The Edith Baker Art Scholarship Award – $5,000
To celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2005, DADA created The Edith Baker Art Scholarship Fund honoring Edith Baker, a respected member of the Dallas art community and one of its founding members. Edith owned and directed The Edith Baker Gallery in Dallas for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2004. The Scholarship benefits Booker T. Washington High School seniors pursuing the study of visual arts in higher education. The award includes a professional exhibition of the winning works of art, an awards reception and the opportunity for a DADA internship.
The Craighead Green Fund for the Arts Award – $2,500
In 2013, additional funds were generously added to the Scholarship Awards by The Steven L. Green and Kenneth R. Craighead Jr. Fund for Arts and Education. Giving back to the community, this scholarship supports young contemporary artists and provides an opportunity to further develop their artistic vision through higher education. Gallery owners Kenneth Craighead and Steve Green opened The Craighead Green Gallery in 1992 which is recognized as one of the leading contemporary art galleries throughout Texas and the Southwest.
The DADA Excellence in Art Award – $1,000
New this year is the DADA Excellence in Art Award available to visual arts students to help further their education in the arts. This award is funded through DADA educational activities and individual donations to the scholarship fund. DADA would like to thank Sue and Bram Flynn for supporting the Edith Baker Art Scholarship Awards and Exhibition throughout its inception, providing funding, exhibition space and enthusiastic support to young artists.
